Blue Stained Roots

From forest stewardship to functional art

Each piece begins long before the workshop. During Colorado summers, Blue Stained Roots works with private landowners on fire mitigation, removing dead standing and downed beetle-kill pine. The blue stain within that wood becomes the beginning of something lasting.

Work that begins in the forest

Fire mitigation is careful, practical work that helps private landowners reduce risk on their property. When a beetle-kill pine tree is safely removed, Blue Stained Roots looks closely at the wood, setting aside the blue-stained material that is suited for a second life.

Milled, then patiently cured

Each log is milled into boards and cured in covered, moisture-free conditions for 24 to 36 months. That time allows the wood to settle naturally before it is shaped into furniture built for years of everyday use.

Selected for its natural art

When the wood is ready, every board is chosen by hand for its blue and gray color, grain, and character. Those one-of-one patterns guide the design, becoming tables, benches, and sculptural pieces that bring an artistic approach to useful furniture.

A story you can live with

The finished piece carries a clear connection to the Colorado land where it began, thoughtfully stewarded, patiently prepared, and made to be part of a home.
